Ignite Retreat 2018

2018 was my first year going to Ignite with Fusion. I had only been going to youth for a couple of months and I wasn’t exactly sure how everything worked, so I was really hesitant to go. But, if Ignite taught me anything, it’s that FUMC doesn’t care how long you’ve been going to youth. They welcome you with open arms and treat you like you’ve known them all of your life.

Ignite was a really monumental time for me. The openness and eagerness of everybody involved made me feel comfortable to act like my original self. I got to know so many new people not only from my tribe, but the new leaders I hadn’t met, and it allowed me to build super strong bonds with people I had known. For me, Ignite was probably the closest I have ever felt to Jesus. I felt his impact and his love for me showing in the forms of my best friends, and my leaders. Ignite was a symbol from Jesus to sort of remind me that my life is looking up and that I haven’t gone through so much for nothing.

The best part of Ignite for me was the worship sessions. Being able to stand in a crowd of people who are feeling like you do and lift your hands unashamed is the best feeling. During those worship times, I felt like I was having a conversation with Jesus. I felt like he was sitting in that room while we all poured our hearts out to him, and I don’t think there’s any other place or church retreat I’ve felt that on.

There is no doubt in my mind that I will go back to Ignite next year. Since this year at Ignite, I have some of the best friends in this whole world, and that I have leaders who are always a call away I can talk to. I have never felt closer to Jesus, my youth group, or my friends like I did at Ignite, and I can’t wait until next year, where this feeling will only get stronger.
