Discovery Weekend 2K19
Discovery Weekend is a time where mid-high and senior high students come together in a way that is so close to my heart. I’m truly blessed to have had the opportunity to experience it in the place of a mid-high student and a senior high student. Prior to Discovery, Jessica and Mike drill it in the senior high leaders minds that this weekend is all about the mid-high students, but if we as their leaders completely dive in and give our full attention, we will learn just as much if not more than them from serving. At school this year I participated in the Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy. We met monthly and discussed types of leadership and how we could reach our community through each individual type. The type of leadership that never left my mind was a servant leader. Some characteristic of people who exemplify servant leadership are active listening, empathy, healer, awareness, conceptualization, commitment and team builder. Along with these traits, a servant leader lives them out with humility. Discovery Weekend was one of the best opportunities that I have ever been given to be a servant leader. For the past two years, my small group has been about half of the current 8th grade girls. I tried my best to devote my weekend to them and make sure they had as much fun as they possibly could!! Serving as a small group leader is truly rewarding, especially when I get to have my friends and my church family by my side throughout the entire weekend. Discovery Weekend holds a special place in my heart, and I can’t wait until next year!!
